Dr. Yang Yang awarded The IEEE Internet of Things Journal 2023 Best Paper Runner-Up Award

Research article entitled "Lab-on-a-Fish: Wireless, Miniaturized, Fully Integrated, Implantable Biotelemetric Tag for Real-Time In Vivo Monitoring of Aquatic Animals" by Dr. Yang Yang from the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences and coauthors, was awarded The IEEE Internet of Things Journal (impact factor: 10.6) 2023 Best Paper Runner-Up Award.

Basin Research: Submarine Landslides Regulating Methane Emissions in Deep Seas

Recently, Dr. Wang Jiliang from the Laboratory of Deep-sea Geophysics and Resources, in collaboration with the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology of the China Geological Survey, the Norwegian Institute for Energy Technology, and the CNOOC Research Institute, published a research paper titled "Submarine fluid flow system feeding methane emission in the northern South China Sea" in the journal Basin Research. The study investigates the structural characteristics and developmental evolution of the submarine fluid system that supports methane emission in the Qiongdongnan Basin, revealing the control of submarine landslides on methane emissions.

The solubility of hydrogen sulfide hydrate in water

Recently, Dr. Chuanjun Wu and Dr. Jiangzhi Chen from the Deep-sea Extreme Environment Simulation Laboratory published a paper entitled with "Experimental Determination and Thermodynamic Modeling of the Hydrogen Sulfide Hydrate Solubility in Water". This paper was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (grant numbers: 41873068, 41804085, and 41973055), and the professor Jiang Lei is the corresponding author. Recently, Mr. Umair Khan, a PhD student of Professor Wu Shiguo and collaborator of the Deep Sea Geophysics and Resources Research Laboratory and University of Science and Technology Beijing published a paper entitled "Middle Miocene renewed subduction of arabian-eurasian plates: Implications for convergent tectonic mechanisms, tectonically-induced fluid overpressures, and sediment recycling dynamics" in the Marine and Petroleum Geology Journal.

The Research Team at the Deep-Sea Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Makes New Progress in Hadal Snailfish Research

The study provides new insights into the unique adaptation mechanisms of Pseudoliparis swirei, the deepest-living vertebrate known, which inhabits hadal zones between 6,000 and 8,000 meters deep. Through comparative genomics and transcriptomics, the study uncovered the species’ unique adaptations to extreme environments.
