State Key Laboratory of Deep-Sea Science and Intelligent Technology 2025 Open Research Project Application Call
About the Laboratory
Established in January 2025 with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Deep-Sea Science and Intelligent Technology is affiliated with the Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Focusing on cutting-edge deep-sea scientific issues and intelligent technologies, the Laboratory undertakes national strategic, frontier, and major scientific research missions. It aims to advance deep-sea equipment technology, develop intelligent underwater systems, build major deep-sea equipment clusters, and drive breakthroughs in abyssal geology, life sciences, and environmental science, providing strong support for national defense science and technology in the deep-sea domain.
To promote domestic and international academic exchanges, interdisciplinary integration, and openness, the Laboratory is now inviting global researchers to apply for 2025 open research projects. Details are as follows:
1. Funding Scope
- Intelligent Control Technology for Deep-Sea Manned/Unmanned Equipment
- Intelligent Detection Technology for Underwater Targets (Acoustic, Optical, Magnetic Signals)
- Marine Multi-source Data Intelligent Integration and Analysis Technology
- Frontier Scientific Research in Abyssal Geology and Life Sciences
2. Project Duration & Budget
- Duration: Up to 2 years; Outstanding projects are eligible for rolling support.
- Budget: Maximum RMB 100,000 per project. 70% disbursed upon approval, 30% released after passing mid-term review.
3. Applicant Eligibility
- Project leaders must hold an associate senior or higher professional title and be actively engaged in research.
- Each applicant can lead only one open project per year.
- Priority is given to applicants with existing cooperation with the Laboratory’s permanent staff. Previous grantees are encouraged to collaborate with relevant Laboratory teams.
4. Application Procedures
- Submission: Complete the electronic Application Form (see Attachment) and submit all required electronic materials (including scanned signed commitment letters) to skldsit@idsse.ac.cn. Paperless application is implemented; no hardcopies required for submission.
- Archiving: After the project is approved, the applicant shall sign the Project Application Form and send its PDF version by email to skldsit@idsse.ac.cn. (Note: Unless it is necessary to make modifications based on the review opinions, the signed Project Application Form should be consistent with the Project Application Form at the time of application.)
- Deadline: January 20, 2026 (strictly enforced).
- Notification: Applicants will be informed of funding decisions after review.
5. Key Requirements for Achievements
All outputs (papers, patents, monographs, software copyrights, etc.) resulting from funded projects must:
- Identify the Laboratory’s open research project as the primary funding source OR list the Laboratory as the first affiliation.
- English affiliation: State Key Laboratory of Deep-Sea Science and Intelligent Technology, Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
