International Conference on Ecology, Geology and Environment of Hadal Trenches
Hadal trench geology, biology, environment, and their intrinsic linkage and interactions have long intrigued the hadal scientific community. With the advent of new technologies such as human- occupied vehicles, remotely operated vehicles, gliders, and landers, an increasing number of new scientific discoveries have been made to unveil and illustrate, with varying degrees, the origin, evolution, and environmental adaptation of hadal life, the characteristics of physical oceanography, geochemistry, and sedimentology in hadal zones and their potential impacts on hadal ecosystems, as well as the tectonic activity and geological evolution of hadal zones.
International Conference on Ecology, Geology and Environment of Hadal Trenches is a hadal-themed conference organized by the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IDSSE CAS), and Global Trench Exploration and Diving Programme (Global TREnD), which aspire to provide a stimulus for high-quality research interactions on hadal trench research and to pave the way in this exciting field.
This hadal-themed conference, with its commencement in 2023, serves as a collaborative platform to pool strength and wisdom in expanding humanity’s horizons and enriching our understanding of the least-understood frontier on Earth.
